The estate of Château Cos d'Estournel sits right on the southern border of the Saint-Estèphe appellation; just down the road lies Château Lafite Rothschild, in the neighbouring Pauillac commune.
Founded by 1810 by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, the estate has changed ownership many times in the following 200 years. Cos d'Estournel is currently owned by entrepreneur Michel Reybier.
Located in the northern reaches of the Médoc, where breezes regulate temperatures during hot spells and allow fruit to maintain freshness, the vineyard is particularly adapted to growing Merlot grapes. In perfect harmony with the estate’s terroir, Merlot is key in creating a smooth, supple, seductive wine that is fruity yet pure.
Notes and Reviews
Jancis Robinson (16.5+)
Bright crimson. New fresh style continues. Floral and fresh but fully ripe nose. Very nice gentle texture.
James Suckling (91-92)
Plenty of ripe fruit with walnut and berry character. Full and silky. Juicy and integrated. Very well done.
