Interestingly, this significant (and historical) estate is owned and run by the French Ministry of Agriculture, after its original owner bequeathed the property to be used for winemaking education.

It's suggested that the appointment of administrator Jean-Pierre Jausser in 1983 was the tipping point for Château La Tour Blanche to become a Sauternes producer of significance once more. The vineyards reflect a typical blend of 70% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and 10% Muscadelle, with fruit fermented in stainless-steel and oak barrels, before being aged in 100% new oak for up to two years. These are incredibly powerful, opulent wines.

Notes and Reviews

Neil Martin (93)

The La Tour Blanche 2010 has an outstanding bouquet with beautifully defined aromas of dried honey, peach skin, melted wax, and butterscotch - linear, taut, and focused in keeping with the vintage. The palate is beautifully proportioned with that thread of acidity interwoven through the botrytized fruit.

This is a Sauternes with volume and dimension and yet I am seeking more persistency on the finish, because it feels like the job is done too early. This is a good wine that, dare I say, could have been even better with more ambition.
