Created in 2011 at the instigation of Patrice du Jeu, the Estate initiated a vast program of rehabilitation of the vines’ parcels to restore its “climats” to the prestige they once enjoyed. The program involves members of his family, descendants of the Saint-Genys family, and some friends whom he has convinced to join him.

This program requires rehabilitating plots that have suffered from a lack of attention for years, particularly the "Clos Marcilly", in Mercurey, where a vast replanting program was launched. 2014 was the first vintage of this exceptional 1er cru in white vinified by the estate. Since 2016 the Clos Marcilly has become a monopoly of the estate.

Patrice also works on the renovation of the historical winery of Chassagne-Montrachet. He acquired the latest equipment in order to respect of the fruits of the vine at all stages of winemaking, from harvest to bottling. Situated in the heart of the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, behind the Church, the Les Héritiers Saint-Genys estate now grows just 13 other hectares of vines between “Côte de Beaune” and “Côte Chalonnaise”. In 2013, Jean-Baptiste ALINC, a famous winemaker, joined the estate to provide the quintessence of its terroirs to wine lovers.

The vines are grown sustainably, limiting the use of phytosanitary chemicals and preferring tillage to herbicides. Harvest is done by hand, directly in small drilled boxes, avoiding maceration of grapes before winemaking and limiting handling and trituration.

The old French term maladière means "establishment of assistance to the sick". These institutions were receiving donations including vines or wine like the famous Hospices de Beaune. So, this climate of Santenay refers to the “maladière” in Chagny, a few kilometers away, owning vines there.

South of the Côte de Beaune, this premier cru is one of the most typical and famous wines for the expression of the character of Santenay. Located in the heart of the appellation, close to the Château Philippe le Hardi, it is one of the most prestigious and emblematic wines of the village of Santenay.

Notes and Reviews

Château Tasting

Very nice colour between red garnet and ruby. Pleasant nose, still a little shy as a 1er cru should be in its youth. Slightly toasted aromas, a little wild with a touch of juniper. The attack on the palate is structured and virile. The tannins melt quickly in the mouth to reveal its youth.
